Announcing 2023 Summer Festival & Membership Dues
We were excited to return to in-person auditions last summer at the Bob Cole Conservatory on the campus of California State University, Long Beach.
Health regulations and concerns had forced us to modify our normal audition procedures and that gave us a chance to experiment with new ways of running a competition. We believe that we streamlined our procedures, including notification of winners, trophy pickup and managing audition room crowding. The addition of using the Whova app for answering questions and getting information to teachers and entrants was an especially useful tool and we hope to provide the same service in 2023.
As we gear up for this summer’s competition, SYMF is tentatively planning on the following:
SYMF has updated our Rules and Regulations booklet, Piano Qualified Solo Repertoire booklet, and the Violin Qualified Solo Repertoire list; they can be found at this link: https://symf.org/summer-festival/rules-regulations/
We look forward to seeing you and your students this summer!

ROTARY MUSIC COMPETITION IS COMING UP FOR HIGH SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS
Dear music teachers, musical theater teachers and directors, music lovers, and previous contestants:
Temecula Sunrise Rotary has scheduled its 24th annual Music Competition for Tuesday night, February 13, 2024, at 6:30 pm, again at Grace Presbyterian Church in Temecula. Attached is a letter about the competition, plus an application for participation. Please share the application and information with all your students, or if you are not a teacher, please feel free to forward this to anyone else you think might be interested. This is for high school age music students.
The dates have also been decided for the finals at the University of Redlands. The dates are listed in the attached information.
If the date of Tuesday, February 13, does not work for your contestants, other area Rotary clubs are also having competitions: Temecula noon, Murrieta, Wildomar, and Lake Elsinore, and possibly several others. I do not yet have their dates,
but I can guide you the right way.
It is important to make the contestants aware of the dates of the finals and of the District event for winning performances. They have to be able to commit to those dates, as every Rotary club pays a $75 entry fee for each contestant. The performances for the three grand prize winners will be at the Rotary District Paul Harris Society and Polio Plus dinner at the Victoria Country Club in Riverside on March 16, 2024.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Marti Treckman,

Founded by Clifford Graves in 1960, the competition is one of the oldest of its kind and open to singers, ages 18-30, and instrumentalists, ages 14 to 26, from San Diego County and Baja California. The competition provides these talented young artists an opportunity to earn prestige, perform as soloists with the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, serve as role models to their peers, and earn $8000 in cash prizes. Many Young Artists Competition winners go on to join our ensemble and to prestigious professional careers in music.
